Outpatient Mental Health Treatment at BHC Alhambra: Why Choose Us?

At BHC Alhambra Hospital, we offer both adult and teen outpatient programs that meet you where you are and provide the necessary tools to move forward in life. Our separate programs are grounded in understanding, flexibility and respect for each person’s stage of life and personal journey.

  • Teens 13-17 can join our adolescent partial hospitalization program (PHP) or intensive outpatient program (IOP). Evening virtual and in-person options are available.
  • Adults 18+ may choose the PHP or IOP schedule that’s right for them; either our in-person day programming or our evening virtual classes.

All our outpatient psychiatric programs are led by skilled mental health professionals in a group setting and designed to foster connection and support among peers. Both adults and teens will learn how to handle life’s stressors and become more effective in their everyday life.

Outpatient Mental Health Treatment for Teens

Our treatment is designed to support teens as they navigate the challenges of growing up. We offer two outpatient programs tailored to the unique needs of adolescence.

Adolescent Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)

Patients attend group therapy sessions to learn how to deal with life’s stressors, suicidal thoughts, severe anxiety and mental and behavioral issues Your child may step down to this program after an inpatient hospital stay, or they may be admitted  directly to PHP if they don’t need hospitalization.

Program Hours:  Monday – Friday from 5 to 9 p.m. In-person and Virtual options available. We provide dinner for those who attend in person. Learn more about our Adolescent Partial Hospitalization Program.

Adolescent intensive outpatient program (IOP)

IOP provides structured support three or four days a week and helps teens build tools for emotional regulation, stress management, communication and self-awareness. The goal is not to “fix” teens, but rather to walk alongside them as they build resilience and confidence. Through group therapy, your child learns coping skills to navigate life in a healthy way. Your child may step down to IOP after finishing a hospital stay or PHP, or they may attend this program directly after being referred by their provider.

Program Hours:  Monday – Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. In-person and Virtual options available. We provide dinner if your child attends in person. Learn more about our Adolescent Intensive Outpatient Program.

Outpatient Mental Health Treatment for Adults

Mental health challenges can deeply affect daily life, relationships, work and overall well-being. Our evidence-based treatment is designed for adults who need more than a once-a-week therapy session but do not require inpatient hospitalization. Clinicians use evidence-based therapies tailored to each person’s age, life stage, and unique circumstances.  We offer two outpatient programs designed exclusively for adults:

Adult Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)

PHP is the highest level of outpatient care and is recommended for adults recently hospitalized for psychiatric care, or who may be experiencing acute symptoms and need more structure and support.   PHP is often an ideal option for adults with significant emotional distress, mood disorders, anxiety, trauma or difficulty managing daily life caused by their mental health challenges.

Our in-person PHP meets Monday – Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. We provide lunch, snacks, and special activities. Affordable transportation options are available upon request. If evenings are better for you, our virtual PHP meets Monday – Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. Learn more about our Adult Partial Hospitalization Program.

Adult Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)

Our IOP is designed for adults needing more care and support than traditional outpatient therapy but do not require inpatient or PHP. Individualized care plans are thoughtfully built around each client’s unique needs with the goal of helping to manage symptoms, develop lasting coping strategies and improve quality of life.

Our In-Person IOP meets Monday – Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. We provide lunch, snacks and special activities. Your day includes group therapy sessions, a 1-on-1 appointment with your psychiatrist once a week, as well as medication management. Affordable transportation options are available upon request. If you prefer evenings, our Virtual IOP meets from 5 to 8 p.m. Learn more about our Adult Intensive Outpatient Program.
